Sensible Days are coming .. on 19/20 August 2006

For a participation fee of 15 Euros you can take part of the tournaments and over-nights are inclusive: from Friday, 18th till Sunday, 20th!
You can bring your friends and supporters, if they don't play, they can sleep here for only 5 Euros!

Hmm, i think about to come, but would be expanseive for me to travel by train and it is far away. That because i think about it.
Hm what is the date that i must say if i come or not?

There is no date for sign up.

Traveling by train with ICE/IC etc. could be more comfortable than by car. And costs are about 100 EUR, driving from Bremen isn't much cheaper. And think of those from Berlin! ;D

What about eqiupment? Are there enough PCs, Amigas?

Does the weekend ticket for train travels still exist in Germany? This group ticket (up to 5 persons) was quite cheap, and you could practically travel for free by joining other groups with less than 5 travellers.
As i remember you can travel saturday to sunday as much as you want by train through the whole of Germany, but not by the fastest trains.  A trip from Karlruhe to Berlin took around 6-8 hours this way. For free!

No this ticket don't exist anymore. There is only a ticket that you can only travel in a district with 5 people (for example from flensburg to hamburg not from berlin to karlsruhe).
Now i know that i can't come. There is the Wutzrock Festival (http://www.wutzrock.de/) on that weekend. It is very traditional for me and cost nothing.
So i'm sorry for that.

This Weekend-Ticket costs 30 EUR and you can travel to nearly every district in Germany. But it is only valid for one day, so Saturday and Sunday will be 2 Tickets.

We have definately enough Amigas! I bring my 1200 + Monitor! Redhair has 2 more 1200 and Monitors!

For the PCs I hope you and Obi bring your equipment again. Also Craizinho could bring his PC (double gameport)! In addition we have Redhairs PC. Plus maybe one we don't know from yet!

Should be fine!

i'm considering if it's worth driving 800km + 800km to lose all games...  i'm sure it is,  because losing with Playa and Red is ok , but i am aware won't be  good for my self-esteem.
I asked a friend of mine if he wants to partecipate (he quit playing swos year 1998,never played since that  year)  , i am waiting for his reply.
I hope to become a good sensi 2006 player...
I asked redhair if it was possible to have a side event like real soccer 5v5 or similar... he answered me  : no (no time for that). Fine (i cannot play soccer actually)....just asking.

is there any londoner going to sensidays who already got a plan to get there?

thanks.

just few more questions - i'm going to go with my girlfriend. any chances for a room just for us? it can be single ;)
what time on sunday do you expect tournament to finish? i know it can be hard to answer that, but we have to book return flight as well, and what i suppose there are only two nights included - friday/saturday and saturday/sunday? any chances to sleep there sunday/monday? if so, how much will it cost?

thanks, see you

yes, your girlfriend can come here with you! Chances for a single room depend on how many people join the tournament. We have 40 sleeping places...

so we will see!

Redhair has more information about the sunday/monday sleeping possibility!

Standard value for PC SWOS! Also time reasons! Tournament must be finished at some point!

Besides this, there are always 2 legs....so 2x 3mins... ;)

i've noticed something, suppose some of you have found this before, but i can't find it on the forum.

when playing diy tournament with imported custom teams, editing team name and shirts can affect a gameplay. at the moment i'm 99% sure, after simulating quite a few matches. if you play with your team edited (just a name and shirts in plain 96/97 swos, not talking about an editor or updated versions!!!) against UNEDITED (only imported)  teams there's a difference. surprisingly, game become little bit harder. does anybody know what is exactly a cause of this effect?

i remember Yossarian stating something like that two years before - he probably (just as me) doesn't absolutely have an idea how it's possible, but you can feel the difference. have you experienced that?

i'm talking about pc swos version, and because of lack of another player-opponent, i'm only talking about games vs. cpu.

well, what relates  the problem then with sensible days?
maybe - just in case - we should force the rule that EVERY team name at sensidays have to be edited or EVERY team name CANNOT be edited? of course it can cause real pain if somebody wants to play just REAL MADRID, or (with not edited teams) problem with recognizing whose AC MILAN is that, but i still think we can sacrifice that in comfort of equal chances ;)

i promise it's my last question about sensidays 06 ;)
Title: Re: Sensible Days 2006
Post by: Redhair on 16 July 2006, 14:03:00
Hm, never heared or recognized something like that.
You will be able to select any team out of the original SWOS 96/97 data, doesn't matter if national or club team. Then you have to change the team name (to nick name or individual name), and if you want, you can change colors and player names.

 :( :-\ :'( :( :-\ :'(

I'm really sad, because I have to announce here that I won't be coming to SensiDays....
Friends I'm sorry I won't be with you next weekend.

Money was no object this time, but I didn't get my croatian passport on time, and there was no way I could get a visa with a serbian one.
The procedure of getting passport got prolonged longer than I ever expected, and it still lasts...

I wish you all good luck, have a really really good time in Pirmasens; drink that Pirminator for me, 'cos I'm sure I'll be there next year!!!

Cheers!

KURWA MAĆ!!!

Davor! I was looking forward to this meeting... Didn't they have something like an express passport service???
My friend did that in Poland, he just had a letter from the newspaper, stating he's a journalist and he's going to write an article about Motor Show. He get his passport in two days. Maybe that way is still possible?

hmm, sorry to hear that! What did the embassy say to the invitation letter? No chance for a 4-days visa?

My plan was from the beginning, not to go to german embassy, but to get a croatian passport which I'm entitled to. I thought this would be a smaller hassle and shoud not last 2-3 weeks before I get it.

To be honest I don't think I could of applied for a german visa, not in this moment - unemployed, and not in school - impossible!
That just don't exist in their application forms for visa.

I asked for you to get me the gurantee letters only because Micko and Mlata had to get one, so I said why don't I get one, just in case.

Anyway, thanks Playaveli for all your help! You and Redhair have been very eager to make us go to Pirmasens.
I'll never forget that, and I'll personaly thank you next year on Sensible Days, when I won't have any trouble coming there...

KURWA MAĆ!!!

No profanity please!!! :)

Quote

Express passport service in croatian embassy for serbian citizens in SERBIA (the land of "opportunites")?!
I don't think so mate.... unfortunately...

We'll have to postpone our meeting for some happier times for me.
Until then I wish that you and Marta have a nice time in Pirmasens!
Write about impressions when you come back.

Cheers.

hmm, strange that you need a visa at all!

Was I stupid to think that you can just get in your car and drive to Germany? (like going on holiday?)! Since when do you need a visa when going on holidays? Thanks to the EU borders are down everywhere and no controls are done anymore...
Title: Re: Sensible Days 2006
Post by: Torpedo on 14 August 2006, 21:40:58
yeah, that's the problem there, FFS.

Thanks to EU borders are down everywhere and no controls are done anymore... inside EU. but believe the borders became even more hermetic, if it comes to travellers from non-EU countries...

FFS, the long awaited (well, at least by me) Great German-Serbian SWOS Clash is looking postponed. cause i believe you are not considering to contact some people smugglers, Davor?

There's no doubt we will have very nice time with Marta in Pirmasens (thanks for a wishes :), but it would also be much, much better if we can meet again... i will try my best to give you my impressions from sd'06, just remember i'm so lazy, that it's sometimes hard for me to write this few words to you  :P

but i will try to upload some photos and movies from the event next week, so expect the links soon ;)

i have a problem.

since i'm travelling by plane, i can't take any bedclothes with me, due to luggage limitations, and simply - bag capacity. is there anyone travelling by car able to take some cover for me? please... it's not absolutely necessary for me, but my girlfriend will be there, and i really don't want her to get a cold at night.

maybe someone for whom it's not a problem to take extra cover can help?
Title: Re: Sensible Days 2006

I see what I can do for you! ;) But a sleeping bad is not that much more luggage, is it?
Title: Re: Sensible Days 2006
Post by: Torpedo on 17 August 2006, 19:11:54
problem is with my bag capacity and new hand luggage allowance.
the other thing is i don't have sleeping bad, that can be easily avoided by simply buying this, but i couldn't pack it, and i will not be able to take it on plane. i got bigger bag, but that's another problem, that i just don't want to carry that just for a weekend, cause it's really monstrous (you know- holiday size), and i will have to take some other connections after arrival, and probably also walk a bit at night, so that would add some difficulties.

if there will be a possibility to buy some cover in Pirmasens shopping centre on saturday that can also be a solution.

unfortunately the pics aren't that good - it was dark inside, and this 'idiot-cameras' don't behave well in such conditions. as soon as i get to work yousendit.com, i will upload the zip. don't know why, but this website have never worked for me... :( i will try to do my best. (rapidshare doesn't work for me, as well)

I'm sorry to say that, but it's in fact the last movie. Because it was very dark inside, my photo-camera didn't allow me to get more satisfying quality. i have tried to choose the ones, where you can actually see what's going on, hope you enjoyed that. I remember Eleven making some shots with a proper camera-recorder, so stay in hope to get some more.

this is just to show that the final match of PC competition has been big-screened, to get a proper atmosphere for this particular event.

http://media.putfile.com/sensidays06-bigscreenfinal

as you can see i was already little bit drunked, and there's a moment when i mistakingly took amiga monitor for a PC one :)

although having some difficulties, especially at the end of the evening, i was trying to do everything to provide most proffesional photo coverage as i could.
other photos, including few more mine, and some of oli o. could be seen at http://swos.ring23.com/foto/index.php?path=sensidays06

Sensible Days 2006

Friday, the 18th of August (Arrival):

At about 4.30pm I met Redhair at the good old location which had proven to be suitable for an event like the Sensible Days.
First things to be done were setting up all the computer stuff and putting whole lots of beers and soft drinks into the fridge, not to speak of 20 cans of ravioli. :D
Tubalardo and Cauliflowerears were the first players to arrive in Pirmasens. They brought some equipment so Redhair and me had a brief look into one of their boxes. We marvelled a lot at the amount of joysticks. Freaks… :)
Meanwhile Schulle and Eleven reached the location, both of them in a great mood. As the evening went by Dutch players Mark & Swoozh as well as Sensi Days’ veteran Oli O. joined the party. Insane from Holland brought some supporters as usual. ElmichaJ was the last one to arrive on Friday night due to the long car ride from Berlin.
At this point we say thanks to Oli O. for bringing the beamer, thanks to Mark & Swoozh for bringing a PC and thanks to Eleven for bringing his monitor.
The field of participants was nearly completed by Friday night. Only Torpedo (arrived in the middle of the night/early Saturday morning) and Harlekin (reached the location with the start of the tournament on Saturday).
Everybody was having a good time and we were partying and drinking some cool beers. For some of the players it might have been one beer to many…

Saturday, the 19th of August (PC SWOS championship):

Breakfast at 8.30am was barely visited because some of the dudes had one over the eight. Twerps…J
In the course of the morning everybody was gathering in the conference room and started to play some SWOS on either Amiga or PC.
Torpedo who was let in by me at about 7am in the morning was getting some sleep due to his overnight odyssey. But he was on his feet on time for the tournament start.

The PC SWOS-tournament was held on this Saturday like the years before.
As the tournament started everybody was concentrated and games were played in a professional manner. The league games were totally trouble free.

League Round:

At the beginning of the league round Redhair’s run of six consecutive 1-0 victories was stared at in astonishment. It was an incredible start for him and he underlined his ambitions.
Places 4 to 9 were contested very hard. Mark and Swoozh managed to profit from their own PC-experience and so they won out over the Amiga specialists Schulle and Eleven. Schulle indeed had some difficulties with the PC gameplay although he is a constant Top10 Amiga online player.

Sensible Days’ veterans Oli O. and Insane achieved what was expected from them. Insane played very solid and secured his 6th place. Oli O. took advantage of his huge PC-experience and outplayed the Amiga freaks. Nevertheless he was no threat to Playaveli and Redhair.
By the way, Insane surprised people by being the only player to beat both Playaveli and Redhair.
At the bottom of the league table Harlekin suffered from having absolutely no experience against human opponents. He won only one match, against Torpedo. And also Torpedo himself was stuck at the bottom of the table. Although he had some offline experience from a WST in Serbia he couldn’t keep up with the online-players Schulle, Eleven and also Mark & Swoozh. So he finished second last.
Last but not least ElmichaJ played a very inconspicuous league round. But he profited in some matches from his PC-experience and managed to achieve a solid place in the middle of the table.
Meanwhile Redhair lost his first place to Playaveli. After having started with his impressive 1-0 series he seemed to loose concentration and fluffed his match against Tubalardo (1-1). Playaveli himself recovered from an early defeat against Insane and defended the first place until the end of the league round although Redhair had upper hand in the direct clashes (1-1 and 2-1).

To sum up the league there were sort of three classes. Playaveli and Redhair miles ahead, then Oli O. with a respectful distance in between and finally the rest of the bunch with Mark (place 4 and downwards), Swoozh, Insane, ElmichaJ and Eleven.
Eleven quitted the PC-tournament because he went down town to watch his beloved Fenerbahce. Therefore 9th-placed Schulle got his last-minute-place in the second round.

Quarterfinals:

In the quarter final Playaveli and Redhair both hammered their pitiful opponents. Playaveli won 9-0 on aggregate against Schulle (his 7-0 first leg win was the highest win of the tournament) and Redhair played a bit of tennis with poor ElmichaJ, winning in two sets 6-0, 6-0 J.
Furthermore Mark managed to pull through to the quarterfinal against his fellow Dutchman Swoozh. In the last match of the quarter final Oli O. and Insane fought a real battle. Oli won the first leg (1-0) which was very tactical and without many highlights. The second leg was quite similar and Insane managed to draw level. Overtime... and Insane scored the late winner. We had seen probably the best quarterfinal matches in the history of the Sensible Days, in a tactical term.

Semi-finals:

The semis were like Germany against Holland. Personalized Playaveli-Insane and Redhair-Mark.
With a look at the results the matches between Redhair and Mark seemed to be very close. But studying the replays you will see that Redhair had control over the matches and it seemed as if he just did just as much as needed to pull through with 1-0 and 0-0.
The second semi was anything else but close. Maybe Insane was still smoking a cigarette or having a beer before he realized that he was 4-0 down against Playaveli. In the second leg he sort of gave up and Playaveli had an easy 2-1 victory.

3rd place:

Mark and Insane seemed to maroon their defences in the 3rd-place matches. Finally it was Mark who won 4-2 on aggregate (4-0 and 0-2). Once again he could take advantage of his online experience.

Final:

The final was a landmark for Redhair who won both legs (1-0 and 3-0) against Playaveli who seemed to be a bit indisposed throughout the matches. Where the first leg was quite close Redhair demonstrated his strengths in the second leg, leaving Playaveli no chance with his superb defending and heading abilities.

Redhair was the deserved winner of the PC-championship.

Saturday night everybody was enjoying themselves and we had a great time celebrating Redhair’s victory. Some nice pictures were taken and also some really funny videos were shot.

Sunday, the 20th of August (Amiga SWOS championship):

The Amiga-tournament kicked off at 12pm. After Harlekin had said “goodbye” on Saturday night, Torpedo had been on his way home since Sunday morning and Cauliflowerears had taken the chance to visit some friends in Germany only 10 players were left.

Group stage:

We decided to play in two groups, both as equal as possible.
Redhair and Playaveli took the lead in their groups from the start. Nevertheless Redhair seemed to have more difficulties to win his matches as he had on PC the day before. But in the direct clashes second placed Schulle had simply no chance.
Oli O. and ElmichaJ exited the tournament with only one victory each.
The biggest surprise was a superb performing Eleven. Right before the tournament he chose to play with a good old Quickjoy. This joystick seemed to inspire him and he finished second behind Playaveli.

Quarterfinals:

The quarterfinal came up with some nice matches. For example Schulle pulled through to the semis in two hard fights against Metzger. After a draw (2-2) in the first leg he scored an 88th-minute winner in the second leg. Metzger didn’t pounce on his chances.

Playaveli was very stable again and kicked Mark out of tournament by winning 4-1 on aggregate (3-1 and 1-0). Redhair seemed to have some problems against Swoozh, loosing the first leg 1-2. Nevertheless he managed to qualify for the semis after winning 4-2 in the second leg.
Eleven was in great shape again so Tubalardo had never a chance (2-0, 3-2). It was really a pleasure to watch Eleven’s matches.

Semi-finals:

But Eleven’s amazing run ended in the second leg of the semi final. After having achieved an honourable 0-0 against Redhair in the first leg, he had no chance and lost 0-4. Congrats to Redhair, respect to Eleven.
The second semi final between Schulle and Playaveli turned out to be a cracker. It was the story of goal and similar games. What was going on in Schulle’s mind after being kicked out of the tournament? Let’s get back to 88th minute of the first leg. A superb performing Schulle had trashed Playaveli (who was one the favourites) and is 4-0 up with just two minutes to go. All of a sudden he missed one tackle in the entire match…boom, goal for Playaveli, 4-1.
The second leg was like a mirror image of the first one. But this time Schulle was the one to be trashed. Playaveli recovered from his defeat and took the lead. But in the 88th minute the mirror image changed because Playaveli didn’t miss any ball or chance in this match. 4-0 after 90 minutes, 5-4 on aggregate, Playaveli in the final…

3rd place:

You could still see Schulle’s disappointment in the 3rd-place matches against Eleven. Once again Eleven was in great shape and Schulle maybe still regretted his elimination in the semis. Eleven won both games (4-2 and 3-1) and achieved the 3rd place.

Final:

The Amiga-final was quite similar. Playaveli was doing well after his incredible semi final comeback and left Redhair no chance (5-2). After being 0-2 down in the 2nd leg Playaveli quickly managed to score the goal which left him only one down. After that nothing happened anymore and Playaveli won his very first final against Redhair. Also it was his personal revenge for the lost PC-final.

---

In the late afternoon the awards ceremony was held and we said goodbye to each other. The weekend was really great and everybody had a great time.
Thank you very much again to all participants and visitors of the Sensible Days 2006.
Hats off to Torpedo, Tubalardo & Cauliflowerears for travelling all the way to Germany.  These guys are role models for all those who considered Pirmasens to be too far away for attending the Sensi Days.

Despite some disappointments by non-appearance of different players the positives outweighed by far and we can say for sure that the Sensible Days 2006 were a huge success although “only” 13 players participated. The witnesses will approve that…maybe others will never learn it.

I've made a video about my games against M4rk in the Semi-Final and uploaded it to YouTube, here's the link:

Résumé: "Abwehrschlacht!" ;)
M4rk's defence was incredible!
Only one little fault decided about win or K.O.
Amazing games for me!

Very cool matches. Mark had a hell lot of work to do there and failed only one time when he tried to defend with that standing header ;) Did he shoot on goal sometime? I can't remember after watching the video... did both play with c. tactic here?
