Title: SWOS 16/17 Error and bug reports
Post by: Rock and Roll on 14 November 2016, 11:23:14
I spoke with Playaveli yesterday about opening a thread like this one.
So here it is :).

Errors / bugs:
- Wrong skin color
- Wrong nationality
- Bugs in career mode
- Messed up starting 11s (eg.: Goalkeeper in midfield...)

Team squads / league sizes / number of teams per league are no subject to change!
This would lead to never-ending discussions! Thanks for your understanding!

After a given amount of time, probably when nothing major and/or no more errors have been reported, we will correct all mistakes and release the final, definitive version.

PATCH TO BE RELEASED: DECEMBER 11th!

Thanks in advance everyone!

Can you re-download and try again? I think I fixed this bug already.

Hello,
I don't know if this thing can be fixed. It's not so important anyway. But... Manager records section, keeps the time of the original SWOS. So 2029/30 in the main screen is 2009/2010 in the manager records.

Anyway, in swos for PC career in Greece didn't stop working after the first season. I suppose it's something only related to ASWOS.

Keep on the good work Playa and all!! :)

Is it possible the player

ABDESALAM MOUSSI

in the ALGERIAN team

MC ORAN

has an extra character at the start of his name?

This will make no difference for most people (or maybe it could contribute to some of the crashes people are experiencing?), but it can mess things up for data analysis and exporting :D

UPDATE: attaching the fixed TEAM file if it's of any use.

Hi,

there is problem with English league at least on Amiga-SWOS. On career mode game freezed on English league after second season.
It also freezed when I selected after first season "view world" and then selected "England".
After that I copied old original team.008-file (English league) to data-drawer and career mode didn't crash in the seven seasons I played.
So all the other leagues should be ok. Anyway, big thanks updating the best game ever, very good work from everyone :)

Hi guys good job by the way,

Malta > Hibernians > all players are with wrong nationality. And Joystick calibration not working good in SWOS++ tested with xbox one and ibuffalo snes controller. Menu navigation seems fine but ingame is a mess ( in the 1.5 total pack they always worked good btw), had to use joy2key. One last thing does it work well on windows 10 ? I have windows 8.1 atm and cannot test it. Thanks indeed

@higgi: Thanks! Fixed!
@el_pasi: Thanks, we'll investigate this further and will fix it.
@ datiern: Thanks! Fixed!

@Ezekiele: Tough one. Will look into it and try, but don't expect it to be fixed. Thanks for bringing it to attention.

has an extra character at the start of his name?

strange, I can see it in game (SWOS error sign for wrong letter) but not in editor - there is an ordinary "A" in front of his name...

if there are any more instances of accidental use of special signs in names then it would be nice to fix it - I thought it'd be quite easy to locate after exporting all data to CSV - but then again, if editor doesn't show them?

The editor may ignore invalid bytes for safety, without actually changing the source file.

I can code a scan of the name fields to make sure they only contain valid ASCII code bytes.

I've checked the croatian file, and some players have wrong nationalities.

Ennio Travaglia from Zagreb is CRO
Matej Jazvic CRO

Marjan Altiparmakovski from Inter Zapresic is MAC
Marko Kolar is CRO

Ante Majstorovic from Lokomotiva is CRO

Adrian Ismajli from Hajduk is ARDIAN Ismajli. Also, since he is from Kosovo, shouldn't he be YUG, not CUS? :D

Alexander Gorgon from Rijeka is AUT.

This may have been mentioned previously but the Joystick calibration in the SWOS++ menu doesn't work correctly. When calibrating the Joystick the numbers for example for bottom right fluctuate between 1200 and 1600. This Problem also occurs when calibrating the middle Position.

Still a great update though!

LUCAS PRATTO from Atletico Mineiro (BRA) is not brazilian - he is from Argentina
Also you can let him play as first choice Attacker instead of FRED

I would also let RODRIGO MORA (from River Plate ARG) play as first choice Attacker instead of SEBASTIAN DRIUSSI

I have a question too -> Is there a possibility to mute the sound effects (like crowd chanting and passing) during a match? It would be great if you could add an option for it

Map your joystick on keyboard input, then select KEYBOARD in SWOS!

Mute the sound effects of Amiga? Or Dosbox?

Oh yeah I meant the Amiga Version
It would be great to have an option to mute the sound effects in matches

Since I'm only interested in the South American leagues, I have to say nice job from Xflea in editing all of them
Some of the Stammaufstellungen (like Mora from River Plate only on bench) and player strenghts (like underpowered D'Alessandro) are not satisfying. It would be nice if he could modify the Stammaufstellungen and Strenghts a little bit

But alles in allem I respect the effort and work from Xflea, thanks a lot

I have a fix for the joystick calibration in SWOS++, or at least it worked for me.

Browse to the DOSBOX folder and edit the ipx.conf file with notepad. Look for the following:

joysticktype=auto
timed=true
autofire=false
swap34=false
buttonwrap=true

Change the timed=true value to timed=false. Save the file and restart the game. Hope this works for others

First of all, thank you very much for the amazing work to bring swos back.
I know that you will not update any teams/size etc but I feel sad to see that the Portuguese football is only represented by 1 league.
Which makes the championship a bit monotonous with no relegations or promotions as including a league 2 would make things more interesting.
Even Holland has 2 leagues :p (don't take it personal). The first league is there, adding the second league wouldn´t be a hassle :p

I noticed that in Benfica, Luisão (Benfica's Central Defender Captain)is not even there. Also Nélson Semedo (Right  side defender)is not there and also lot´s of other players. It would be nice in a future rather then having trial/loan/reserves fake player names to add other real players.

Thanks and good job.

hi zigeuner,

thanks for your kind words :)

and thank you for finding LUCAS PRATTO error - my mistake

about replacing LUCAS PRATTO with FRED - I was using soccerway data for statistics for this season:
http://pl.soccerway.com/teams/brazil/clube-atletico-mineiro/317/
and it showed me a lot more appearances of FRED...

also River Plate:
http://pl.soccerway.com/teams/argentina/club-atletico-river-plate/107/
Mora had 4 matches, 0 goals
Driussi 9 matches, 7 goals
that's why I chose Driussi

if you are familiar with the facts those players should be replaced (injuries, etc.) please share with me

about values - all values are from transfermarkt, except the cases when there was no price there - then I had to evaluate by my own :)

also if you have any more insight into South America teams and players you are welcome to share with me - it is really very helpful

Thanks and good job.

About leagues:
Sorry, we decided to go by original game structure of SWOS 96/97.
If we add a league to Portugal, we have to delete some other league? But which? Discussions would be endless.
So, that's up to private updating.

About the players:
There are no fake names, at all. All players are real ones, from the squads of teams, as listed on transfermarkt.com!
But I can promise to review those a little, if the mistakes are that apparently. Will consult a friend of mine from Portugal.

Thanks for your feedback.

An Xflea:

I didn't know you go after Soccerway statistics dear friend...well then the Strenghts and Formations are OK of course. Forget my critic about it, just leave it like that

Maybe edit minor cosmetic stuff with these club names:
Gimnasia Laplata (ARG1) --> GIMNASIA LP
Crucero Delnorte (ARG2) --> CRUCERO DEL N.

The rest is of course great job and thank you again for your effort. I'm looking forward for the corrected final version on 11th December

5. Nauris Bulvitis should have ginger hair

If that would be possible in the future versions that would be cool because names like Andrija Živković, Luka Jović, Celis, Franco Cervi, Danilo, Grimaldo, José Gomes etc are not there at all.
Same applies to other clubs. I can help with data if needed :)

Just to let you know that career mode crashes at the end of 2nd season (Portuguese league with Benfica) when accepting a new job from Nice, French league - while launching 3rd season.
Thanks

I am disappointed that we're not using the SWOS way and, say, have all attackers playing as midfielders as M, not an A. If they're on that position, that means they can play that position, and since we're doing a moment in time, at that moment in time they were indeed midfielders.

Some examples:
KF Laci in Albania has 3 central defenders instead of RB D LB
AEK Larnaca in Cyprus has 4 wingers (this looks like a real mess), same as AEL Limasol, Rakvare in Estonia, FC Maarodu...
Ethnikos has no wingers at all
Runavika from Faroe Islands has 3 attackers and the left attacker is an M
Pallokhero from Finland has an attacker playing in midfield and the bench is wrongly ordered

Also some errors:

Parnu from Estonia has two right wingers
Seiajoki from Finland has two right backs
Nantes from France has switched left and right winger

Title: Re: SWOS 16/17 Error and bug reports
Post by: xflea on 17 November 2016, 08:32:00
hmm, I agree with Sida79... I thought every team should have at least one RB, LB, RW and LW in 1st squad. When editing the only "deviation" from the SWOS pattern I made was in 4-2-4 tactics putting 3 M and 1 A or 2 M and 2 A.

In the Ethnikos example it means that team is completely rubbisn in speed, except for their RB and LB.

The errors cited in the end of the post are obvious to be corrected I believe.

As for examples above (eg. no wingers) that would also require generating a new set of skills for each playaer, right?

Besides general editing rules did not provide strict rules for that so I guess it is to be discussed?

Thanks for reporting the errors.

Concerning Runavik (seeing as I did the Faroe Islands), that's not a choice, but a mistake.
It should be corrected by turning Hreinsson to a midfielder (or LW, then change Justinussen to M),
and changing the formation to 4-5-1 (the matches after I completed the final update were played that way).
The Faroes were difficult seeing as sites had contrasting information.

I agree with xflea, I wouldn't call the things you posted disappointing. They are mistakes.
If you have a list of more mistakes, please post them in this error topic. Thanks again for reporting.

Concerning 4-2-4. In that case I believe there are only two M's. Two A's should be LW and RW.

of course there are 2 M (defensive midfielders) plus RW and LW on wings in 4-2-4

I meant two players in the middle in front - one is central striker - and the player playing behind him - here I took the liberty to either make him M (attacking midfielder) or A (secondary striker)

If you have a M player in the position of second striker, does the game notice he is in the "wrong" position and make him play shit?

I guess it depends on his skills set

If it depends on his skills and not his specified position, then that's great!

Adds extra depth to the game if you can find a "winger" with good finishing and turn him into Henry without the game punishing you ;)

Playa, based on the latest version of DATA folder that you sent me I have found some more issues:

1. Substitutions in England - 5 players on bench when you play league matches but 3 when you play cup matches

2. South Korea national team players nationality is CUS not KOR (also in South Korea in TEAM.057 file)

3. Iraq national team players nationality is ALB not IRA

4. Scotland national team players nationality is ALB not SCO

5. Middlesbrough striker is ALVARO NEGRADO not ALVARO NEGREDO

6. In World Cup teams (file TEAM.082) some players value is still +15M (unlike the rest of the database where only Messi and Ronaldo are +15M)

what is that TEAM.082 teams for anyway? also a leftover teams file? I haven't seen those used anywhere in the game...
Title: Re: SWOS 16/17 Error and bug reports
Post by: Sida79 on 17 November 2016, 13:41:05
Three central defenders looked like a choice, but it's just guesswork, of course. 4 wingers situation repeats more often.
I do understand the M/A variation in 4-2-4,  however. Personally I would've opted for 4-5-1 as a replacement for 4-2-3-1 as it is much closer to it in philosophy (whereas 4-2-4 just looks similar in the formation screen :) )

The "out of position" players don't seem to play different when watching matches/playing against the AI but if you coach them, the game will often report a weaker player with "right" position is better and I would not be surprised if their price was falling. But nothing serious will happen.

But why there are present weak national Teams like San Marino,Faroer,Malta and Luxemburg and not present much stronger Bosnia,Montenegro,Kazakistan and Kosovo(for Europe); Sri Lanka yes and not Uzbekistan (for Asia); swaziland,Etiopia, lesotho,Burundi and Tanzania yes and not Rep.Dem.Congo(ex Zaire),Guinea-Bissau,Is.Capo Verde,Libia and Guinea Equatoriale(for Africa)?

Thanks!
As already written on Facebook:
We decided to leave national teams the same as in the original game 96/97. As a tribute in classic sense!
Furthermore we didn't look at FIFA ranking! And which nation to leave out instead? San Marino and other small nations were in the original and have every right to stay in the game, too!

If you disagree, please use an editor and patch the game your way!
Sorry for any inconvenience!

The number of substitutes in cup matches is normal. Back in 96/97 teams were only allowed to name 3 subs for cup matches.

Yes, but also the league was like that. I tweaked that, to 3 of 5!
I try to patch the cup, as well.

Hmm, but Maradona played in 1994 World Cup, which is the one used in preset 96/97.
Maybe they didn't use it, anyway.

Adam Webster (CB) should be blond
Jonas Knudsen (LB) should have dark hair
Freddie Sears (LW) should be blonde.

Thanks

Germany, 2. Bundesliga, VfB Stuttgart --> Großkreutz has a special character error ("GroXkreutz").
Germany, 1. Bundesliga, RB Leipzig --> Naby Keita has to be black, Yussuf Poulsen rather too.
Germany, 1. Bundesliga, Werder Bremen --> Gnabry has to be black.
Germany, 1. Bundesliga, Bayer Leverkusen --> Bench attacker should be Stefan Kießling instead of Admir Mehmedi for following reasons:
1) Mehmedi is more a LW,
2) Kießling has done far more credits for Bayer,
3) Kießling is only 1 million less than Mehmedi
4) As Kießling never played for the German National Team (totally undeserved!), he should at least show up in SWOS 16/17
5) well, is that enough ... ?  8)

Portugal, 1. Div., FC Porto --> Starting 11 - LB and RB have to be switched.

Here is another batch for possible correction.

-",2" means second division from the top
-#3 means player #3 has a strange name
-if two players are playing each others position, I'll write it as one error from now on, not two, as it can be fixed in one move by switching those players
-I probably got some errors wrong, but you can see what's off just by looking at the team

Chelsea: Pedro RW, Hazard LW
UTD: Mata is not a A, maybe change tactics on 451
Arsenal: Ozil is not a A, change tactics on 451
I dont know why Watford, Hull, Boro, WBA, Bournemouth or Sunderland are better than Southampton, Leicester, Everton or WHU.
City, UTD are little better than Sunderland hmmm
So this quickly on what I found :)

I understand you :) I found an error :) too much you used in Sunderland the attribute 8-15 :) then Sunderland had 49% and City had 50% and I gave attributes 0-7 then Sunderland had 25% and City 34% :)

That has to do with the information I could find on the teams. A lot of surnames are very common in El Salvador, so the two surnames helps to distinguish between them. That's why I used them when possible. There were teams which took me a day to find enough info on 16 players.
I could have used only one surname in the teams I had two for, but then there'd have been a lot of players with the same name/surname.

Hi,

You will have to excuse me for being a complete novice here and potentially coming across as if I don't have a clue.

I have downloaded SWOS 16/17 but when I run it (using the Start Game windows batch file) it is extremely slow. When the titles are scrolling on screen they just repeat themselves over and over again overlapping each other (I am sure there is a more technical term for this but thats the only way I can think to describe it) and then when the game starts properly it takes and absolute age to move between menu options and after you press enter to get to the next screen, making it unplayable in it's current form.

Not sure if it something to do with my laptop, DosBox or something else. Hoping somebody here with more knowledge on the subject can help out, was very much looking forward to the nostalgia of playing through a few games of SWOS, would be a real shame if I couldn't get it to work.

Thanks in advance.

Even Czechia is trying to be known as Czechia, not with other name. In other lagueages people use only one word too: Česko, Tschechien, Tchéquie... http://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-36048186

Rather we will be using Czech Rep :)

It is Ziechtenstein on purpose.
Otherwise, Wales would be out of the game! :-)

Remember, in original 96/97, Yugoslavia was out!

Sorry to anyone in Liechtenstein...

They are probably not so actual on FIFA. Officially is renaming to Czechia quite fresh. In country names in ISO they changed it on 26.9.2016. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3166-1
So I believe soon will be new name replacing old Czech Republic everywhere. Czechia is shorter and looks better. :-)

PC DOS time bug will be fixed, too.
For 20 years, PC DOS matches lasted not 3 mins, but only 2:20 min (1:10 each half). Nobody noticed... until somebody opened a topic here:
http://www.sensiblesoccer.de/forum/index.php?topic=26129.msg132216#msg132216

Anyway, from Dec11, PC DOS matches will last real 3 mins. :)

Why do we want PC matches to last that long? :P :)

Why are we doing these little updates anyway? I thought the moment we were trying to capture has passed with the deadline.

What is Stevie worth these days? 500k? For SWOS 26/27 we must have a price adjustment for old players, which would have made him worth at least 1.5M, much more fitting for an old player of his calibre :)

Here's a question for error and bug reports: every time I play a good team, their goalkeeper is beyond useless, usually just standing in place and letting any half-decent shot in.
Could it be possible that goalkeepers above a certain price just become -25k keepers with huge price tags?

I must admit, I'm finding the English League 2 goalkeepers really poor too - I keep winning by ridiculous margins, even though my strikers aren't really very good. Could this be looked into please? It could be that I'm just a really good player (but I doubt it) ;)

Also, I know the career mode is going to be fixed (for the crashing) but will I lose my saved game if I keep playing before the fix is introduced?

Hm, the goalkeepers are spot on, according to their price. Also, the average gk value matches fine with the rest of the squads. So, it's maybe your skill... ;)

I think you will be able to use your career file, even when the patch is released. Should work without problems.

Hey.

I have concluded that the only way to get joystick working is to in ipx change cycles to 10000. Otherwise the guys will one run in one direction.

Not related to anything, but it seems that the best way to use corners is to just push the button of the joystick without moving it.

Before the December 12 we could update the Swedish and Finnish leagues to match the teams that were relegated and promoted, since we play yearly seasons. But maybe we should not chase a moving target?

When in career mode I have tried many teams and one thing I have noticed is the budget goes down Realy fast within 5 games I'm in debt  :( ??

I think the players are slightly over rated. AFAIK weekly wages are calculated depending on player ratings. Too many white star players. In the original, Roy Keane was only a big Yellow star, and he was just about the best midfielder around at the time (coming from a Liverpool fan!)

In fact, Man Utd only had 4 white star players in their squad and they were winning everything at that time.

In the update they have 9 white stars, even though their team is crap now!

With so many over rated players, and no increase in prize money (income), the financial side of things in career mode must be really unbalanced?

P.S. not a criticism of the guys who edited the players! I know there was an agreed upon lookup table for value/stars. Just observing that the original game seemed a bit more conservative in handing out the stars, so teams weren't crippled by wages after a few weeks.
Title: Re: SWOS 16/17 Error and bug reports
Post by: Playaveli on 06 December 2016, 13:26:26
I think that is really good, because it will force you to try out cheaper players, or play with some trailists / reserve players. ;)
Some challenge, at least!

And also, this is a good reflection of reality. How big is the debt mountain of Real, Barca and the likes? And why? Think about it... and do it better in your career! :)

PS: Surely, we will reconsider the price/value table for the next update, if we do one!
Title: Re: SWOS 16/17 Error and bug reports
Post by: Janko4 on 06 December 2016, 16:39:28
It is probably not error. SWOS is made so, that your expences are higher as your income. Not only in big clubs.
Example: Slovan Bratislava in SWOS96 had Gate receipts +140 k, General running costs -160 k, Player wages bill -51k = -69 k Total loss by home matches. And by matches away it was -211 k Total loss.
In SWOS16 is money in Slovan (squad is much weaker now as was in 1996) +60 k - 48 k - 15 k  = - 3 k Total loss at home. And -63 k Total loss by away matches.
Sometimes are cost by 25 % lower, so sometimes weekly balance can be small +.
I don't know how it calculates, but sadly money is going down from beginning of season.

This may have been mentioned previously but the Joystick calibration in the SWOS++ menu doesn't work correctly. When calibrating the Joystick the numbers for example for bottom right fluctuate between 1200 and 1600. This Problem also occurs when calibrating the middle Position.

I have the exactly the same problem, with 2 or 3 different gamepads...SaintGav's solution below has just fixed it!

I have a fix for the joystick calibration in SWOS++, or at least it worked for me.

Browse to the DOSBOX folder and edit the ipx.conf file with notepad. Look for the following:

joysticktype=auto
timed=true
autofire=false
swap34=false
buttonwrap=true

Change the timed=true value to timed=false. Save the file and restart the game. Hope this works for others

Thanks, this has fixed it for me, finally!

Fixed for good, set as default!

Was there supposed to be a ground rule on team names? Some leagues have teams names with the "FC" stuff, others don't. Some teams with abbreviations ass their name get a city name added, while others don't (even within the same country files). Are city names supposed to be native or English based?

Minor thing: the Ajax and PSV reserves in the Dutch 1st division were replaced by Koninklijke HFC. Logical decision to replace those two reserve teams, but the rightful replacement team should be the best third level team from 2015/16: Excelsior Maassluis. :P

Team names:
That was up to the editors, but transfermarkt.com team name should have priority.
"FC" stuff was/should be added, when it's common in a specific country to read/say it with the club's name.

You might be correct about the "minor thing", but I left that up to Betichus.

Hehe. This is what I said just before the update was released so too late to change. It should be Excelsior Maasluis. I did change a few team names in Holland eg adding FC seeing as that's what everyone in Holland calls them.

Italy - AC Milan - in squad is missing Juraj Kucka. He plays every match (only missed 2 matches for red card). For example Andrea Bertolacci played only 1 match, and they have similar value too.
Also Jose Sosa and Riccardo Montolivo played less matches, and have lower value.

Very good. :-) When I will play game and after some time I will get offer to be coach of team Slovakia, this player will be important. I already will miss Peter Pekarik from Hertha Berlin, Milan Skriniar from Sampdoria Genoa, David Ivan from Bari, Jan Gregus from FC Kobenhaven. They play regularly too, but I must admit they have lower value as their teammates.

The whole system is structured around users and datasets, so it would be a big change to work with no login.

This new SWOS is great. Little spoiling is only in national teams very unrealistics overpowered Denmark, Italy, Norway, and very underpowered Hungary, Slovakia, Romania. Also Russia, Georgia looks too strong, and Iceland, Faroe Islands too weak. I think I will edit it for myself, to make these teams more playable. But whole this project is very good!

Hi, the following players in the Premier League should be black:-

Arsenal: Francis Coquelin
Hull: Jake Livermore
Southampton: Virgil Van Dyck
Sunderland: Jack Rodwell
Tottenham: Kyle Walker, Dele Alli, Michel Vorm, Mousa Dembele
Watford: Heurelho Gomes
West Brom: Salomon Rondon
West Ham: Winston Reid, Dimitri Payet, Darren Randolph

None of these players is "really" black. Some less than half-black, or with some african roots.

Thanks for your report about Sheffield. Will look into it.
But you are right about Palmer, he is indeed black, unlike the ones listed above! ;)

Okay, it is subjective but I don't understand how you can look at that list of players and say they should all appear as white in the game. Obviously with Swos there are two choices, white or black. I think these 'not really' black players are better represented by the black sprite than the white one, rather than saying that all players should be represented as white until their actual skin tone matches the black sprite. Maybe someone else has an opinion.

Yes, I have an opinion.

This is a dangerous mine field. So much good work has been done here, it would be a shame to taint it by going down this particular rabbit hole.

My suggestion? All skin colours are frozen as they are right now. No more "official" changes. People are still free to edit their own datasets, of course.

P.S. playa, please don't even ATTEMPT to answer the question, "what makes a person "really" black?" :D

Post by: Sida79 on 15 December 2016, 18:18:03
Haha... well SWOS was a bit weird with just two player colors. I mean, even three colors would be almost enough.

Purely theoretically, a way to settle this would be to take the photo from the same source (say, transfermarkt), and find the average skin colour, which could then be compared to swos colors (or better yet, the middle ground between swos colors) to determine should the player be darker or lighter. Of course, I'm talking about RGB values, not visual comparison.

Yeah, there are two Mousa/Moussa Dembeles in real life. It's easy to tell them apart because one is black and the other is white (just kidding!).

Excellent work with the colour decider. I'm dying to know the rest of the results now.

@Ben
Don't worry, you really have a point there.
Also, Sida79's logic doesn't make sense (to me), but it's not important now. (And if there was a joke somewhere in his post, I am sorry I missed the funny part...).

Applying, for example, the logic in 96/97 where Ronaldo (Brazil) is black then you would have something like (but I could be wrong on one or two):
Arsenal: Francis Coquelin -> black
Hull: Jake Livermore -> white? (*edit)
Southampton: Virgil Van Dyck -> black
Sunderland: Jack Rodwell -> white
Tottenham: Kyle Walker ->black (*edit),  Dele Alli->black, Michel Vorm -> black, Mousa Dembele -> black
Watford: Heurelho Gomes -> white
West Brom: Salomon Rondon -> white
West Ham: Winston Reid -> black, Dimitri Payet -> could be both, Darren Randolph-> black

The logic is to make a simple arithmetic rule for the "official" updates to avoid the never ending arguments about who is "really" black...

Don't know what you're talking about.
I just said he has a point there, Randolph is not white, there's no way, my guess is the guy editing didn't even look at the picture, that's all. It's not a crime and that doesn't bother me.
For me it's ok, white, black I do not really care about how they look in the game.
The guy was polite, had a point, do you know what a forum is? :)
Admins can ignore him or tell him they decided otherwise (they have all the rights) or whatever they want to reply. I agree with him, but I am not asking for a change, probably the guy editing was too busy to check all the pictures (was he supposed to?). No big deal.

Title: Re: SWOS 16/17 Error and bug reports
Post by: Sida79 on 16 December 2016, 05:03:43
Well, that escalated quickly. Do you need more than 1 person involved to say that? ;D

The best scenario would be to use the logic from SWOS 96/97, but I don't know what logic they used. I imagine they used the almanacs and haven't really seen all the players in action. If that is indeed so, the method I proposed would yield slightly better results.

The silly part of it all, and the reason why I would never seriously insist on using that system, is that both the photograph you find online, as well as skin colour itself, can vary, so it's best to leave it to someone who's seen the player in action many times.

You need no better proof for this than to look at Ronaldo's page on transfermarkt, which does its best to come as close as possible to both the swos "white" and the swos "black" sprite at the same time.

Now, just to be clear... this would still not be an obstacle if someone would make automated software that takes a bulk of player's images from google and, with little supervision, mashes them all up in a much better average. What would be an obstacle is that we perceive colour in relation to it's surrounding, if you think of that whole white dress/blue dress thing, or what was it, and optical illusions.

Then there is the question of overlapping ranges with different endpoints, etc. Too much work!
Title: Re: SWOS 16/17 Error and bug reports
Post by: higgipoker on 16 December 2016, 07:44:44
Hey Sida, yes, as I feared, this is turning in to a mine field. So I'll say this and then bow out:

The point was that the colours should be decided without relying on our subjective opinion. As this thread shows, that strategy will only result in endless arguments. Arguments about skills are bad enough, but I was just trying to stop this forum going down the road of bickering over who is "really" black. Before you know it, someone says the wrong thing without any bad intentions and the whole thing escalates.

The official editors have done such great work here, for their benefit we should give this topic a wide berth before it can even get started. They don't deserve having accusations thrown at them.

Your idea, like the calculation for player values, takes all subjectivity out of it and that's the point. I'm not suggesting we actually use it either, just that we should make a point right now, for the benefit of the editors, to avoid this "discussion" altogether.

Leave all players as they currently are and let people edit their own datasets if they are unhappy. No more "decisions" on whether or not a player is or ins't  "really black." I suggest we avoid that particular mine field, for the benefit of the editors who have done such an awesome job.

Just my suggestion, hope you'll consider it.

Good luck!  ;D

@Higgipoker

Mine field? Escalates? In what world something like this is a mine field? Not the real one, I am sure about that.
It's way simpler than that.
Guy says: these guys are black. Instead of saying something like: yes, you're right (or right on most of them), but we are not planning updates for now/it was editor choice and we keep it like that anyway/generic excuse/we decided to keep the work of the editor/etc. etc.  Playaveli wrote "None of these players is "really" black. Some less than half-black, or with some african roots."
->In my opinion <- this is complicating a simple thing.
Let's start from the fact that's the only reply to Ben's post that really matters, being from a mod/admin on topic, then you (and then Sida79 answering his own questions) jumped in...

Noone is attacking the great work done here, well, not me for sure and I am quite sure it's the same for Ben. However I am not blind, that's all and I personally don't like when someone pretends not to see a simple mistake/wrong choice, just because in his mind that ruins the perfect picture.

Especially because Ben was probably right.

Also, take Janko4's post. One reply could be: at the moment we don't want to edit teams (or something like that) but please tell us why you think they're overpowered and where. If the guy replies, he may or may not have a point, if he doesn't case close. Maybe he has something interesting to say or maybe not, but why not take a chance and see if we can talk about something here? The update is not "under attack".
Last thing:
man, this is not kindergarten, you say: Leave all players as they currently are and let people edit their own datasets if they are unhappy.
Implying someone pointing out something wrong or apparently wrong or makes no sense (even if, like in this case, irrelevant) is unhappy. And unhappy is negative, is bad and is, obviously, wrong. Wow, just wow.
I imagine Ben thinking "oh, right, I can edit a dataset myself, thanks Higgipoker!". Was he talking about that? No.
Yes, I don't know what you're talking about and you probably don't know as well.

@higgipoker - I agree completely. The rest was for the lolz and lolz it got, so mission accomplished :)

@emmeti - you have a point on some of the issues, but generally don't seem to see the faults in your posts with the same efficiency with which you find them in those of others. Your unwarranted reaction, playing the blame game, taking things personally and the tone of the posts in general makes one feel he's arguing with a child, and that's just no productive way to go about your day!

Looking at the editor's decisions, as well as yours and mine, I can conclude probably neither of us is blind but we do all have different ideas of how those players should look, so while "edit it yourself" might sound dismissive, it's really a logical answer.

wow, SWOS is really a powerful drug :D

a bunch of pixels and several pages of forum arguing...

but seriously - about editing work:

when editing players, sometimes you get only 1 single photo available (bless the internet if there is one good photo) - not every single player is as popular as Ronaldo :P

EVEN in case of famous players there could be doubts - to avoid "black" and "white" dilemma I give an example of "white" and "blonde" dilemma:

MARIO GOTZE - is he "white" or is he "blonde"

http://ocdn.eu/images/pulscms/YjQ7MDQsMCwwLGQyMyw3NjM7MDYsMzIwLDFjMg__/ddfe441c4c0d7177a39b1ace88a9c7a7.jpg

or

http://www.banzaj.pl/pictures/sport/pilka_nozna/Pilkarze_cd/Mario_Goetze/mario_gotze.JPG

hard to tell

imagine you have only one of those pictures available...

thus:

1. I think it is safe to assume EVERY editor gave his best to do his work

2. everyone here in the forum is welcome to post his suggestions - we all read it :) and it is not impossible to make another patch sometime...

no big problem here, friends

This is the problem in a nutshell. Now who is making accusations? Nobody said anything about "ruining a perfect picture." WTF?!

"Simple mistake/wrong choice" in YOUR opinion. The fact of the matter is that it is an entirely subjective, and SENSITIVE topic. You could line up photographs of a thousand real players covering every single shade from pale white to darkest black. Where would YOU draw the line? Why are YOU right?

Nobody accused you or Ben of anything. My point was that this has the POTENTIAL to escalate and that we should should shield the editors who have done such a great job from this before it has a chance to.

Anybody who can't see why this particular question is a dangerous mine-filed, as opposed to say player skills, is simply deluded. This is a great community and I just don't want it opened up to questions like "well why did you decide this guy is white, he's clearly a black man, what makes someone "really" black etc etc."

If you aren't wary of the potential of such a discussion to escalate badly, even among friends, then you have lived a very sheltered life!

So yes, I say leave the skin colours as they are now. Not to dismiss people who disagree with the data, but to not impose a difficult decision on the editors, opening them up to arguments and accusations.

ON a more serious note, i havent time to read through 18 pages of comments, but has anyone asked... Why hasnt the Wembley image been updated? I did this myself in a fairly receny update and would be willing to share the file.

OK. As has been said, a difficult subject to discuss and I don't think this is the place to discuss it.
I would only like to emphasize that there were even more difficult things to decide on.
Think about strips (there were some crazy ones in El Salvador).
Not just design but colours (pink any one?).
What I found even harder was when a player had black or blond hair.
In El Salvador I was dying to find people without black hair.

It's all subject to opinion.

Which image did you take to replace good old Wembley?

Pitch modifications:
- Adboards with 16/17 instead of 96/97
- Coaching zone added in front of the benches!

Other modifications:
- Main menu logo, with 16/17
- Purple background logo, with 16/17
- Loader1.256 (intro)
- TWO.256 (intro)

That's it. We didn't want to change more, but keep the low-key element of the original.

I agree. The black/blond hair is a tough one, as can be the black/white skin. I think a bit of common sense is enough to get things right. No need to make any arithmetic rule or compare shades in photographs (especially when they are all coming from different sources).

Anyway it's never too late if anyone wants to notify us of some wrong choice in skin color.

I don't really see any danger here for us editors or any necessity of a "shield". The bug report has been on point so far and I think we know how to reply to any complaint, regardless of its fairness. All of this without resorting to the infamous expression "it's not a bug, it's a feature" :)

Well have at it then... I mean  I agree, I'm one of those who can laugh at calling a black man "not a real black man..."  ;D but you should just be aware that there is the potential for people to take comments/decisions like that VERY seriously. I see the potential for editors to put their foot in it without even realising, if we go down the road of allowing debates over who should be black and who should be white. I just think it's better to avoid it altogether here, that's all.

It is NOT comparable to hair colour. That is simply naive.

Look for the following:

joysticktype=auto
timed=true
autofire=false
swap34=false
buttonwrap=true

Change the timed=true value to timed=false. Save the file and restart the game. Hope this works for others

Thanks, this has fixed it for me, finally!

New ++ version will be included by next week. USB devices will be auto-configured, by default.
This will get rid of all problems, including the usage of joy2key or similar software.

Hey dude!

There are some error in Italian SERIE A and SERIE B teams.....

SERIE A = 20 teams, not 18... You have to insert UDINESE and PALERMO (actually placed in SERIE B)

SERIE B = 22 teams, not 20... You have top remove UDINESE and PALERMO (move in SERIE A) and add: ASCOLI, LATINA, PRO VERCELLI, SALERNITANA.

See ya mate!

When I played this game, after I came back to windows, sometimes line of letters on keyboard (QWERTZUIOPúä) stopped working. When I pressed those letters, nothing happened. (this was happening only when I played SWOS) So I needed to unplug keyboard cable and put it back. But this week it stopped working pemanently, even reconnecting cable didn't help, so I needed to buy new keyboard. Had anybody similar problem?

Bayer Leverkusen --> Kiesling should be German, not Suisse
Roma --> Edin Dzeko should be Bosnia, not CUS (what does it stand for?)

CUS is short for CUSTOM. Meaning all countries not listed in the game, ie newer formed countries like Bosnia etc.

I am managing Blackpool from England. Now I am currently on 3rd season (div. 1) but when I click to list the free international players the game crashes (guru meditation). Also, if I choose to select buy other local player then div. 1 has wrong teams number (22 instead of 24), some teams are missing from the current championship and the Premier League looks like it has defaulted back to the original set (as of 1st year of career). I could share/email my adf save disk if anyone is interested to check it. I am using the updated/pacthed lha pack on 3.1 wb emulated environment under e-uae ppc jit on MorphOS.

Team numbers of leagues are same as in 96/97. We didn't change that.
Not sure why you get this error on the transfer market.

But as I can see you are not using the default Amiga SWOS version we provide. Maybe try it on there first.

Bayer Leverkusen --> Kiesling should be German, not Suisse

Thanks!

Well I am using the lha version downloaded after the patching date of 11/12/16 from the official - unofficial usual link here: http://files.swos.eu/swos16-17/ It just runs under Workbench 3.1 emulation on MorphOS. The game was running fine for 2 seasons straight before I got this weird transfer market error. Also, especially for West Bromwich (but for some other teams as well), that they appear in the default place (premier league), whereas they compete now on Division 1, if I click on them, I get details of other teams (i.e. Mk Dons :P). Which version I should check?

It does! But no national team! ;)

So, yes, Dzeko can be corrected!

Hi,

Love the 'new' SWOS 1617.

I have a joystick issue on the PC version when entering swoss ++ and applying my two Competetion pro usb joysticks (Cpro).

When both are connected and I set *joystick+joystick* - I get a *joystick error* message. Also when I pick *keyboard+Joystick*, but not with *joystick+keyboard*

I have 6 different Cpro sticks from varius generations, but no matter hav I mix and match it's the same error.

windows 8.1

Hopefull

You can only play 1 USB device at a time, natively. Sorry!

Solution: Use joy2key software and map one of the USB joysticks on keyboard controls. http://joytokey.net/en/
Then, in SWOS++ select JOYSTICK + KEYBOARD!
(If it's still not working properly, just map both joysticks on keyboard, and select KEYBOARD + KEYBOARD)

PS: Come to DISCORD chatroom if you have problems in setting that up! I can help!

Hello all. I checked every national team in game. Errors, which I found, I fixed in patch in this link. I also changed power of teams, which were too strong or too weak compared to reality.
In this link are files, which I changed, and also comentary with all changes.
Anybody can download it, and play. Maybe you will like it. There is only PC version, I do not know how to do Amiga version. Maybe somebody can do it for me.  :)

The PC game that runs on Dosbox stutters often for me. The whole game is slowing time to time except I don't think I notice sth wrong with the audio.

Do you have any ideas about what can be the problem or how to fix it ?

When making a copy of the online savedisk.adf, and then renaming it to career.adf to use on 'offline 96/97' I have found the following issue when playing with Spain 16/17 in Friendlies offline: my goalkeeper teleports within the box. There are just sometimes no frames to see him dive or walk to a save.

Just wondering if this is a known issue.  ::)

When playing I did notice that it just seemed to affect one of the goalkeepers of the Spain 16/17 teams, the other seemed fine. In this case my goalkeeper was glitching and the one for the cpu was fine.

@Playavelli any news on the teleporting goalkeeper? Could you replicate it?  ::) it keeps on happening, in offline play that is. There I keep having the same issue, also with the custom team A.M. United (based on Spain). As I copy the online savedisk over the 16/17 file, as you suggested. And then in a DIY league with the custom teams, I don't only have it against Spain. But the goalkeeper kinda teleports in every match, doesn't matter if it's a 16/17 or 96/97 team.

Edit: well it seems to be only a problem when using the online savedisk offline, well that just doesn't work with Spain 16/17 it seems. And I guess it just was never intended for that purpose ;-). So no problem to be fixed, since the online play seems fine with Spain 16/17.

BUG: Goalkeeper will teleport within the box. See the last goal in this video: https://vimeo.com/228370736.

Conditions needed for the BUG to appear:
- ASWOS version 2.12: Original 1996/97 Season or Updated 2016/17 season.
- Online or offline: Offline.
- Type of player modes in a match: Player (blue) vs Coach (light blue).
- Controls: Keyboard Layout B and PC Joystick 0 (I am using an aJoy adapter with an Amiga The Arcade joystick). This is what I used when testing. BUG might also occur in other instances.
- Team selection: any two 16/17 teams that have identical players, who are mostly not identical at all. E.g. club players and national players who share the exact same name, mostly aren't actual identical in characteristics in the 16/17 database.

Please note that sometimes the BUG won't occur the first match in a friendly, choosing to play a Replay match usually results in the BUG quite fast. It will appear first for the Player (blue) team's goalkeeper. Once the BUG is introducedat the Player (blue) side, the Coach (cpu) goalkeeper will also be teleporting in the box.

[edit on the 6th of October] It seems to be only limited to De Gea, goalkeeper with Spain 16/17 as Playaveli points out later in this thread. Please note that once the bug occurs, sometimes the opponents GK is also affected. And it might also just be affecting the matches that follow.

Question: Has anyone been able to recreate this BUG?

@cofresi:
Im sorry, but what is this obsession about a bug in the game? There are plenty of "bugs" in the game. Just go to youtube to see a few if you need to. We have no chance of "fixing" anything in the game, since it is amiga code running through an emulator, updated stats or not.

Thanks for your question.

For me it was just that the online play also wasn't really fun anymore, and that was the thing that became more of an obsession. So I really needed to take a step back, and play more offline and online only from time to time. Even though offline is not at good substitute to get better, I do maintain my level a bit and the muscle memory ;-). So I als wanted to make offline play as hard as possible for me, by choosing Coach for the opponent and changing there formation to either 523 or to one of the Custom tactics on the savedisk.

So to keep having fun with the Sensi game it now works best if I can use my online team also offline (as I could when using Brazil 96/97). Since with offline I do like to have the option to play whenever I like, and not have to go and wait for online players who are about the same level as me. Also, I did put a lot of time and effort in switching to the Spain 16/17 team for online play, that I used in the summer ASL5. And for me this just was the last analysis of the Goalkeeper teleport bug, just to see if I was the only one and to see if it could be fixed. Now that I know there is 'no chance of fixing the bug' I will look for the best alternative to play offline.

If my analysis is now correct, I could still play offline with the top 16/17 national teams without the Goalkeeper teleport bug occuring. Offline, the only downside is now that I can't play against any of the best 16/17 club teams.
Or I could choose to use either Brazil 96/97 or Italy 96/97 for online play as well as for offline play.

So I do have my solutions to work around the bug now. It's just that I find it very odd to have a forum topic called 'Error and bug reports' if there is 'no chance of fixing the bugs'. It's rather useless then. Since all I wanted to do is help you improve the game and the updated 16/17 database by reporting this bug.
Title: Re: SWOS 16/17 Error and bug reports
Post by: djowger on 04 October 2017, 19:26:54
If you go to the first post of this thread you will see why the topic was created. Mostly to make creators of the 16/17 patch aware of any flaws like wrong hair/skin colors, misspelled names, formation choices etc. Not to fix the actual game code, but I see your point.

I haven't tried to replicate your bug yet, perhaps some time later.

You should get back to online. You can always play friendlies without any pressure. It will still make you a better player. I only use offline play to practice goals or test tactics. Defensively it is rather useless.
Title: Re: SWOS 16/17 Error and bug reports
Post by: Cofresi on 05 October 2017, 21:06:40
Thanks for trying to replicate the bug. It might still just be only me... LOL since I just discovered playing Spain 16/17 vs Brazil 16/17 in a DIY league with the same GK teleport bug that I described. So there goes my theory of 'double players' ;-) But it does confirm that it's mostly the second match, not the first match that is will occur. Well, and it also doesn't work to replace one obsession (taking online play too seriously) with another obsession (debugging something that won't be fixed) ... so I will just let it go now  :-\ :D.

And thanks for pointing out why the topic was created, can understand that it also was mostly created to have an updated database when playing online ;-).

Time for me to just accept the situation and be 8) about it. Then from now on it will jus tbe A.M. United (as long as it's on the savedisk) or Spain 16/17 for online play with ASWOS 16/17. And just us my old team Brazil 96/97 for offline play with the ASWOS 96/97. Since all in all it's just great that the programs even exist for online play  ;D

It has nothing to do with the player names!
It's only Spain's DE GEA with this bug.

Funny enough, I had found another goalkeeper bug while doing the update. Neuer from Bayern reacted slowly like a grandpa on PC DOS version, while playing vs. CPU teams. ;D

Neuer and De Gea are the most expensive (ergo: best!) goalkeepers in SWOS 16/17. Makes me suspicious.

@djowger: you have experience with super-teams... did you notice any strange GK behavior with a 15M price tag?

You are right for the following matches that were affected, that De Gea (worth 7M in Spain 16/17) is key:
- Spain 16/17 vs. A.M. United (= Spain 16/17) *if savedisk is updated this might not be possible anymore.
- Real 16/17 WHI vs. Spain 16/17
- Spain 16/17 vs. Barca 16/17

Still it does not explain why I found the same result with these matches below (might be that once the bug occurs, all following matches get the bug too... haven't tested this)

No GK De Gea, they do have both some players worth 15M
- Barca 16/17 vs. Barca 16/17 YEL
- Real 16/17 WHI vs. Real 16/17 BLA

No GK De Gea, Real does have Bale who is worth 15M
- Real 16/17 WHI vs. France 16/17

Hmm.. well the last couple of times at the DanishCup we have been using superteams made by me. BUT on purpose I made the keeper with less stars than the normal players, which is only 4, which starts around 1.9 M £ if I remember correctly. I did this so we would have a keeper similar to tafferel from Brazil, to not make the switch from normal to superteams that big in the offensive play.

I don't recall ever having seen this bug in earlier versions of Danish Cup / Danish Open. Back in the days they used full superteams made by Brian (hot2not), so the keeper must have had a value of 15M also. Would be interesting to hear if some of the Danish Cup guys have seen this bug before. They might have. There was once a certain goal that they said was forbidden (haha), could have been the old jigga move or something close to the bug.
