Introduction

The Sensible Days must go on! This time the world championship of SWOS will take place in Fulda, Germany. This will be the 16th edition held in the series of the World Cup, and for a second time in Fulda, after 10 years time. A remarkable story in itself, of what started out with just a few players meeting in Pirmasens, is now an ongoing international tradition for many years. We see players travel great distances to play their beloved game and meet with their fellow SWOS friends. During the weekend of 27/28 of July 2019, we will find out who will be crowned as World Champion of SWOS in both PC and Amiga. Along with the 2 main tournaments, a couple of small side-events and cups will also happen.

The tournaments are open to anyone, but a pre-payment is mandatory to join the event! This is done to ensure better organizing possibilities, arranging of groups & seedings, amount of equipment needed, getting the right amount of food & drinks etc.

If you have any questions regarding the event, feel free to contact the organizers. Contact info is listed below.

This event will take place at the same location as the World Cup in 2009. It is a very suitable place for the event, placed just outside of Fulda. It is very easy to come by car or train, and if the Frankfurt airport is just an hour away (by train).
The location has proven perfect in 2009 which saw one of the greatest World Cup's ever held. For organizers it is also perfect, as catering is completely taken care of by the Youth Hostel.

Format & Rules

The following rules are the same for both (AMIGA) & (PC). Only difference is the tactics and KO rules.

> 1st Group stage with groups played as DIY leagues. A maxium of 7 players will be in each group. Expected number of groups are 4-6. Players ranked top 4 in the groups are still in the tournament, while the rest can play the optional fun cup known as onion/cucumber tournament.
> 2nd Group stage will decide seedings for the knockout rounds which will consist of a Master group (group winners), Super group (runner-ups) and 2nd chance groups (3rd and 4th positions from 1st group stage.
> KO rounds, played as DIY cup

Players are placed in groups by drawing from pots made from placements on the ss.de offline / online rankings by the SWOS veterans and organizers.

> Teams:
Any original team from SWOS 96-97 may be chosen, and edited through Edited Custom Teams menu, to add a personal touch to your team (names and colors).
For base we will use the online save disk. A custom teams and tactics thread will be created later on.

> Pitch Type:
Always random (pressing ESC to get a new pitch, only if both players agree). If both players agree to play on a specific pitch this is fine too.

> Controllers:
Free of choice. Feel free to bring your own controller. Also there will be various controllers present at the tournament.

> Home player "advantage":
The "home" player may pick his seat position first if he wants to.

> Other gameplay rules:
Players are not allowed to press "R", "S", "SPACE", "F9" & "ESC" during a game unless agreed upon amongst the two players.
Number of substitutes for each match is 5 of 5.

> Gametime / options:
In the group stage 2 games will be played vs each player ("home" and "away" match) - 1 match lasts 3 mins. Groupstage options:

> Specific AMIGA rules:

Amiga KO-rounds: 2 x 3 min, no ET, no penalties!

- If it's a draw another 2 games have to be played!
- If they also end in a draw (no extratime!!!) on agg. a penalty shootout will take place!

(tactic rule for Amiga makes this mode mandatory, see below!)

> Special tactic rule for Amiga:
The home player (the first player of a fixture "Home vs. Guest") is allowed to use a custom tactic. If he does that the guest player is also allowed to load a custom tactic! If the home player doesn't use a custom tactic, the guest is not allowed to use a custom tactic.
If a custom tactic is chosen by the home player his opponent may use any available tactic on the disc if he hasn't got his own (except the one from opponent if he does not agree, unless he is not the creator of it)!

Optional: Players agree between themselves! (eg.: both games with tactic, or both games without) However, only 1 tactic may be loaded pr. game by each player!

> Specific PC rules:

PC KO-rounds: 2 legs, ET if replay, penalties if replay!

- On PC custom tactics are allowed in every match without any restrictions! However, only 1 tactic may be loaded pr. game by each player!

What about xBox? R we doing it? We don't need x360 now, swos is available on xbox one. It's just the controllers we would have to sort out. I can look into that.

Hm... I don't need that tournament.
For me, PC / Amiga and Classic are enough.

Anyone? Well... Rock obviously!!!! ;D

I'm not sure but I think hairfu might have some adaptors for Xbox but I could be wrong. We were supposed to play it after amiga in hamburg but as always not enough time.

For the same reason I think all groups should be limited to 6 instead of 7.

I had two adaptors to play with Amiga Controllers on Xbox 360 a few years ago, but I sell it to dior in 2015 as I did not use it in those years. After I did not had the time to rebuild a new adaptor short before the SWOS Hanse Cup, I had cancel the Xbox 360 Cup on my location this year. But it is very easy to build an adaptor to use Amiga Controllers on xbox 360. Only soldering skills needed but not knowledge about electronics or software programming.

Found them on first try/search on eBay, only 2 were available. Didn't hesitate to buy them immediately!  8)
Didn't you have them as well, in Billund 2014?

Yeah.. Was only hard to come by these last couple of years. Sometimes you can get lucky :)

Or not lucky... just got a message from the seller. He listed 2, but only has 1... LOL!
Figuring out what to do now. Either keep one, and get a different one for the other tournament.

Or cancel completely, and buy 2 of the same kind.  (Example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/382846012956)

Just drop me a line with opinions.

Scratch that... :)

I will cancel that single one. Just had the idea to look on US eBay, since I am still over here.
And look: https://www.ebay.com/itm/273251772069

This is 30cms. Great looks, perfect price, incl. engraving.

Is there? There shouldn't be one from EU countries / € zone.
Should only apply to some participants. Can you recheck that?

About the group drawing:

What about a digital version of it instead of surprise eggs hassle?
Writing names in a little program, then having groups drawn on button click, everyone watching on the big screen.

Would make things much easier for organizers and still enjoyable for everyone to watch.

Yea, I was thinking about Hawkz, too. Will also ask Redhair if he can do something like his old Sensible Days Manager.
*edit* he just sent me this link: http://www.auslosungstool.de/  works great! :) So we'd have something already.

I used Google Sheets in Billund because it has an automatic sorting function for league tables etc.
The same can be done in Excel, but it's more difficult to produce a league table (you need to create a
few auxiliary columns with countif's and so on).

Random numbers are easily produced in both programs, though I'd have to think about how to implement
this in a live draw situation. Then again, the more I think about it, the more Ilike the physical drawing of pots
instead of just pressing a button. I only need to type in a name (or even an abbreviation) to put someone
in a group/draw so it should be easy to do "live", maybe even easier than a random Excel-draw.

I think I could use both systems at Sensi Days without too much trouble. It all has to do with what
the community wants in the spreadsheets, aka what should happen automatically etc.. I'm busy with
marking final exams etc. at the moment. It might be handy if we all think of what we want in Excel (or
Google Sheets) at Sensible Days. I've contacted Hawkz to see what we can implement.

Aka, please state what we want/need :) .

As we've spoken on whatsapp, let's go for Excel for the group drawing, with a nice layout in Hawkz' quality/style.
No hassling with those bowls and surprise eggs.

What we want/need? Well, seems like we'll have 6 groups to start with on both big formats, so 6 pots for each one.
Title: Re: Sensible Days 2019 - Fulda, Germany
Post by: Rock and Roll on 09 June 2019, 23:48:12
Busy working on the spreadsheet before sending it to Hawkz for tweeks, cosmetics and overall improvements.
Seeing as we're going to have 6 groups NO MATTER WHAT, I've programmed 10 possible pots.
So 6 groups with 10 players max. The spreadsheet can be easily adapted for less than 10 in the groups.
It has an automatic fixture set, but if we prefer we can enter the fixture list per group which swos generates, just
before the tournaments get under way.
Got a random draw in, result entering, automatic league tables, automatic calculating qualifiers for Master, Super,
Repecharges, KOs all seem to work. Just need a cosmetic polish, and a KO tree.

Busy programming a page for automatic best attacker / best defender but I have some questions first.
- Can a Bacon/Onion/Cucumber/Sauerkraut etc etc qualifier win best attacker / best defender?
I'm inclined to not allow these matches to count towards best defender / attacker.
Can these matches count? Or do only the matches these players played in the groups count?
Or must you finish in the top 4 of your group to be eligible for best defender / attacker?
- Is the best defender / attacker still the player with the best average?
Previous editions we've always used the average = goals / matches played to determine the winners.

Yet again the question; does anything else need to be put in the spreadsheet?
I hope to finish the boring stuff this week :).

*c&p from whatsapp:

I think we should stick with averages.
And every match should count for that, no matter if cucumber or master group.
Alcohol can be involved, that is part of it, and part of the humor.
As long as the rules are followed (eg: no own goals on purpose etc) everything is fine.

Do not hassle... just count all the matches which are also entered on website.

So, yes, EVERYONE can be best goal scorer or defender, no matter which route of the tournament he will take. Master or Sauerkraut... every match counts!
We'll stick with averages!

Great work, Rock. Really awesome! Looking forward to using that spreadsheet.
Please share it with me when it's done, so I can do some tests. *edit* just saw your message on FB. Thanks!  8)

Question ahead:
Will a player be drawn from a pot on one's button click? To "simulate" opening the surprise egg? That would be essential...  :)

Had a phone conference with Micha yesterday.

We've decided to NOT play an XBOX tournament for good reasons:
- Not sure about hardware
- Not sure about adapters
- Relax the schedule for everyone
- Too much hassle :P

Best goalscorers will be awarded with the CANON, as it is a German tradition in real football (Bundesliga)!  8)

Hi all, sorry for not being able to make it (again). I was looking at one point all solutions. All low-cost flights land somewhere far away. Even if I plan some train connection it would be too much traveling and not enough time for me to travel that much. In the last moment I had a great offer, one in a life time adventure, and I was calculating until last minute but even that turned out to be complicated for me. f*** me. And my f**king calculator. I only hope that I did ruined the fun for those other players if they depended on me (and my already mentioned calculator). I give my word that I will play next year! So eager to play again.

Most of all I wish you all amazing time, great games, lots of goals, edge of the seat combat, and may the best (least drunk) men win!
I hope you will have some stream or live scores so that I can follow you all day long.

Hi,

just wanted to send out a HUGE "Thank you!" to all of you guys!

I had a blast at my very first Sensi Days ever. You guys were all so very nice to me, so supporting and just great!

Also loved the location, the organization and wanted to also thank Playaveli and ElMichaJ for having me!

Thanks again - you really "sparked the SWOS flame" and I really hope to see you again :-)

Another great Sensidays is over :) it was again a very funny event.

First I want to say Thanks to a lot of helpers.

Savedisk for tactics and teams were made perfectly by andib and djowger, so we had no problems.
Also streaming PC and Amiga Games were made possible by these guys. Excellent Job my friends.

Rock did a lot of the result entering and prepared a good tool for it. Thx a lot. I think next year it will be easily possible by using new website admin interface. Got some nice feature ideas from it.
thx to all selfmade admins which speedup the leagues.

thx to all players which took part. We had no real problems with time losing or noise pollution.

I am also happy about the new german community members. I hope it will improve the activity of further german offline tournaments. There were also very nice guys, but we know this fact in our community.

Congratz to first win for boesjesman !!!

Congratz to blazej ;)

berlin crew got 2 silver medals ! YEAH ! Best Clan on the Tournament ;)

thx for so much nice talks and matches.

still reviewing all new memories.

hope to see some videos from Virtual Dimensions soon :)

Please post photos and videos here and on facebook.

Could not have said it better :)
What a great time, what a blast.
My first Sensidays, my first event of this kind at all to be honest.
Maybe I will participate in other events of this nature in the future.
But you guys set the bar so high...
...it almost feels like it can only go downhill from here :)
You spoiled me :)

Great event, great organisation like always! Was big fun! Thx to the organizers for making it happen once again! And the location has been perfect with very tasty food!

I was happy to see some oldschool SWOSers return like Pallister, Asboy and Peter R for example, as well as having some new faces around! @armakuni: Cya at Eifel X-Mas-Cup 2019 ;)

Congratz to Berlin Crew for taking home two silver medals, well deserved (as well as the Danish guys with two bronze!). Eifel Crew won at least the Sauerkraut Cup on Amiga - congratz Paider! And with this strong field of players we are happy that at least two players made Top 8 on PC. Even more when Blazej stands in the way like a wall that just refuses to be teared down :P (and he even starts saving penalties now - dark times ahead my friends :D) However, congratz for taking all titles once more, mate! This run gets more impressive and more unbelievable every year.

Just one suggestion for improvement: The new group draw system ist too clinical - get back to the old one! Talked to some players on friday evening and they felt the same about it.

Cya at the next edition - OFFLINE still rulez!

Looking back at another amazing days...

The sheer joy I saw friday in Playa’s eyes when I arrived, so happy to be back in his community, so proud to be organizing it in his home town...

Compliments to the organisers, as said before I would like the kindersurpriseegg style drawing too, much more fun (even though rock sis his best as quizmaster).

For myself, t was a sort of physical challenge again.. different than last year, but hope to be fit in Krakow, Gdansk or Byalistok next year... And it was a next phase in me re-understanding what make the game tick, which helped me perform on a far higher lever sunday (but just not enough to go over that threshold)...

And lots of ideas for new events.. Hoogkarspel in oktober, London and Eifel in November...

And the absolute highlight: that we were all so happy for Boesjesman’s first win...

Here the flickr album of the photos I made https://www.flickr.com/photos/romanista/albums/72157710002182021

Finally back home after a week of holiday after sensi days! 8)

Was a great edition to the long line of traditional sensi days. I think  the location is still very good for an event like this, and the food and local beer was great! Im glad playa and me got the streaming to work, but despite the delays it was better that text livescore ;) Go to twitch.tv/playaveli/videos to rewatch some of the games. It should be available for some time, else download the streams with a flash video downloader. However I will try to convert the pc replays of the kos some time later.

Enjoyed the talks with the "new-oldschool" members like Pallister, Asboy and Peter, but was also nice to see new players like sebastosh, Thorsten, Armakuni, Rudiporto etc. to join the event. It is pretty cool that we can still attract new members to our community.

Congrats to all medalists and of course the tripple champion Blazej! Another impressive run, with no defeats on amiga! Just crazy! :)
I am happy for andib finally breaking his 4th place curse and getting a deserved bronze medal on amiga at days.

I managed to get bronze in both PC and Classic, and topscorer on PC. I felt good on PC all day, but had a complete breakdown in the 2nd semi vs bomb. A big congrats to him for the Silver.

On our way home, the danish guys talked about suggestions for "improvements" to next editions and ended up with this:
- Keep a more strict time table, or get back to direct Knockout stage scratching 2nd group stage, but keep the Sauerkraut cup. I don't remember what time we ended up with on saturday pc (sunday morning) but amiga was 3 in the morning or something like this. I think this is too much time wasting. And yes I know we can't please everyone. Most people just want to relax, drink beers and play a little swos during the weekend. However many of swos travellers have a 10+ hour drive on monday, it is not worth it having to wait 1 hour for 1 game to be played before we can continue.
- Switch date for Amiga/PC every 2nd year, instead of having PC always on saturday. The Amiga tournament felt a bit neglegted or less important this year. Not the same proper drawing of groups as on pc, and people caring even less on time table than on saturday (of course due to tiredness/alcohol/classic schedule).
- Cool to see a new way of drawing groups with the excel by rock, but the danes prefer the old way with the kinder eggs :)
- Complete testing of the equipment (CD32) should be a must before an event like days. dior and me had 10 crashes on the classic tournament and I also had this in previous games. This also adds to the time wasting factor of course.. use disk version on amiga 1200 as in days 2018.

The days must go on... in ... Poland?  ::)

Im also back home after a week on holiday with my family.

Congratulations to all medalists and thank you everyone for participating. This was another great event.

I managed to get my first medal on Amiga. I thought I could make a surprise on PC and didnt expect anything on Amiga. Once again this was wrong. It was the same last year for me.

Like Djowger said, he spoke for the Danes about suggestion for improvements. Especially the switch between PC and Amiga every second year on saturday/sunday could be interesting. People are always wasted on sunday which make the Amiga Tournament "less important" than the PC Tournament. Could be interesting to see the level of Amiga SWOS if it is on Saturday (every second year).

I have uploaded some of the saved PC replays from the Knockout stage. It is a Youtube playlist. Enjoy!

Another absolutely great weekend. There was something magical to get back to Fulda after 10 years. The place still is very impressive and offers quality standard.
Thank you organizers. From my limited perspective everything seemed to go smooth and easy. Didn't experience any issues in the group stages. Maybe on Sunday it was slower than it should be but overall just great.
I have to say I felt this excitement and sense of competition like in the old times. And I was able to give my best performance so far on both platforms. Cool, I'm very happy.
Congratz to Blazej for doing this again. Unbelievable, he is on completely different level. We all know it but still seeing it live forces you to open your eyes a bit wider...
Miss you guys, hope to see some of you in Londyn.
And what more, as Elmichaj once said, a day after Days is a year before Days.
See you all next year!

Hey everyone!

Thank you so much for making this event happen and coming down to Fulda. 40+ is always a good number.
To every participant, but especially to everyone who helped in organizing, hardware, results, cleaning etc etc...
When I look back I must say the Days orga team and hardware contributors are like a well oiled machine... it's just great!

Congrats to all medalist. It's cool to see andib taking an Amiga medal and Bomb playing at his best and reaching a World Cup final.
And of course Blazej who once again proved his extraordinary status as the best player ever to play this beautiful game. I mean... ALI did such a great comeback just to find himself being absolutely chanceless in the final. Same goes for Bomb, obviously.

Thanks also for the feedback.
I think you are right, let's get back to using surprise eggs again for the group drawing.
Also switching AMIGA <-> PC day around every other year sounds good to me.

The Days must go on! And sure they will...

Hey guys,

most things are already said. But one thing can be said once more:

BIG CONGRATZ TO BLAZEJ!!! Just unbelievable. Always being focused on point no matter what the clock tells... Still inventing some weird moves we never saw before .... well, maybe a result of all the online training sessions you played with the Bomb in the last months... OK, kidding. ;)
Me in the final is probably a result of all these matches.  ;D
Don't know. For sure it was like Andib said: if you expect noting, you can go far... I actually started drinking beer right before the KO round in PC cause I thought it'll be over soon (I think it was the first time since more than 10 years I did this... now I know what I did wrong in the past :D :D .D).
Anyway... something tells me that Blazej's Hegemony will break next year. Some of the finals have been closer than the result tells...

Great to see all you guys again, its getting more and more to be like a big family meeting.
BIG THX to the organizers who made it possible again.

I also like the drawing by excel sheet, but it was way too quick to even generate a little bit of excitement. So I would vote for the oldschool Surprise Eggs variant next year. I volunteer for the draw.  8)
And yes, changing PC/AMIGA every 2 years would be great to give AMIGA the same amount of attention by the crowd, especially in the finals.

See you next year!
