The controller is working finally with fire button!

Although in calibration, (same as before, as I didn't mention it in the first place) when holding down top/left, two values were 24 which is fine and then to bottom/right - the values are changing wildly constantly and the same goes for centering.  If I do it every time, they are always different.

However, when playing in the game, the controller seemed ok.  Will try it out on online match.

I suppose there's no way to increase the resolution in swos, no?  Just play in the full-screen mode?

Thanks

I didn't have the same success. I get the same issue as you when calibrating the controller. 24/24 in top left, other numbers are crazy high, and not working for me afterwards on windows 7. I cant move in menus.

On my xp machine, calibration worked okay and afterwards in the menus. But ingame i can only run up and left, so it seems calibration was not a success after all. Tried 2 different amiga controllers for this. I also did a quick calibration in Control panel.

So to sum up, now controls is not working for me, but fire button is :)

@Playaveli, thanks.  When I changed to normalx3 and disable fullscreen - the size is just right for me but the controller is somewhat flicky in matches, half the time it's not responding at all.  Calibrating the controller again didn't help.

Changing to smaller default normalx2 (without the fullscreen), there was still a bit of issue going on but switching back to the fullscreen has restored the controller back to full control (apart from calibration issue I mentioned).  A strange issue.

I'm using Windows XP.

@djowger, so I'm not the only one.

I guess a practical solution is to download a joytoplay program and convert the controller's input to keyboard's input.

My controller is a usb wingman precision gamepad modified to connect amiga controllers to it. So it should act as a gamepad. Everything works out of the box when playing the amiga version. So there is nothing wrong with the controller/adaptor.

I can still play on my normal keyboard, but that is not really the issue here.

Please check if controller works with normal, plain SWOS 96/97 in dosbox, without SWOS++ extension.
Need to find the error reason.

You could also try some other dos game with your controllers.

Not possible for me, as adaptor only allows 1 button, which is my problem in the first place. I dont have any other usb gamepads.

Please suggest other games to test, preferably a 1 button game.

Sensi 1.2, for DOS!

Or, to make it totally easy:
http://www.abandonia.com/de/games/10042/Alley+Cat.html

Alley Cat, greatest gameplay for a 30kb game. You can play it with joystick.
In the pre-game screen you are asked about your controls.

Same here with a Gravis Gamepad connected via USB adaptor.
If I leave in central position at the kick-off it keeps bringing up the bench. Other than that it seems to be working fine.

Okay. Tried alley cat, dyna blaster and ugh! All games worked fine with my amiga controller through my adaptor. Ironically sensi 92-93 didn't work despite running calibration through the install.exe. It's a curse :D

But doesn't seem to be a dosbox error from what i can tell.

Please try with normal SWOS 96/97 in dosbox (not ++ version).
Also try: http://joytokey.net/en/
Controller working there?

Also try: http://joytokey.net/en/
Controller working there?

I have little experience with dosbox and I tried running dosbox without ++ (on SWS_ENG.EXE right?) and the controller is fine, maybe a bit slow as it needs a proper calibration?

Also if I put in normalx3 (also without ++) and it doesn't resize the windows to 3x?

I remember playing SWOS PC my Mac with my controller using Boxer and it was flawless.

I guess I will try out joytokey as I think it is too buggy to work with any USB controllers, especially when using different scaling window sizes.

Im pretty sure, that ill write if i tested keyboard without swos++.

I simply started a friendly versus AI and got the same problem as in Multiplayer. Sometimes it stucks. For example if u use right and bottom, sometimes he dont realize the command. It stucks. Also if u just one button, u have to reclick it, what is definitly not normal. Should be fix to be playable at all.

The problem is that it isnt everytime and not in some circumstances, that it would be predictable and playable.
