A little bit of ideas for future new features

Hi, i love what you are doing guys. I just want to throw some ideas that - in my personal taste - would enrich SWOS 2020 (or next iterations). Please, take these by no means as "rants" (for their current "lack of"), but as cool ideas to introduce.. since you guys seem to share my very same passion about this game and seem to want it to become the definitive soccer simulation (like I do).

Premise: I have no idea about the amount of work required to introduce them. Just wanted to "suggest" what would be cool to implement for the future - at least for me. I hope some of this ideas appeal to devs and community too, and are viable to implement, so as SWOS can "potentially" become the definitive soccer simulation, covering everything!

My personal "would love to" are these:

1) Complete the roster of club tournaments, while mantaining the current ones (even if they are not available anymore in modern soccer).
I like the old Uefa Cup, European Champions Cup, European cup-winners cup. These have a nostalgic value and have to stay: dont delete them ever, they belong to story of soccer, and SWOS can become the way to experience them again.
But it would be nice to be able to experience also:
- modern European Champions League
- modern Uefa Europa League (with preliminar turns).
- "old" Intertoto Cup
- "old" intercontinental cup (Europe Champions League Winners against Copa Libertadores Winners)
- CONCACAF Champions League (north american)
- Copa Libertadores (south american)
- CAF Champions League (Africa)
- AFC Champions League (Asia)
- OFC Champions League (Oceania)
- FIFA Club World Cup

These competitions would be nice to experience both "directly" and inside Seasons.

2) Complete the roster of national teams tournaments.
That means to introduce the Confederation Cup.
It would be nice to experience both "directly" and inside Seasons, if you are the coach of a National Team that qualified for it.

3) Enrich as far as possible the CLUB team and competitions' database, without "replacing" what is already there (only adding).
The most important european soccer nations should imho have all the 4 club divisions playable, while currently only England has them (others have only 2 divisions).
That means:
- Italy
- Germany
- Spain
- France

Also, in many importante Leagues (i.e. italian Serie A) the number of competing teams has changed since 96/97 (Serie A today has 20 teams, in SWOS 2020 it has 18 teams). It would be nice to be able to bring these important leagues "in par" with what currently is in the real world.

4) Expand as far as possible the National teams database.
The super-mega update by Empi comes to my mind; unfortunately it requires "replacing" the old database. What would be nice is to have a similar database "in addition" to the club one (and not replacing it), and being able to use it for competitions (both preset/DIY) and seasons.

(points 3 and 4 require "finding a way" to expand the database in a way that does not crash the program)

5) An option to still "choose" a preset competition but introduce some "DIY" options, like: randomize the teams and some aspects of the format somehow.
What I mean is that if I currently choose "European Championships", the tournament always starts with the same teams in the same groups, replicating the 96 championships with 24 teams, divided in 6 groups of 4 teams. This quickly becomes boring.

It would be nice if "preset competition" could shift from "the replica of a particular tournament in time" to "an instance of the basic idea of the format" (like a competition of World National Teams, for the World Cup) to be further customized by choosing options when you start it... like the number of teams (which currently became 32 for World Cub and soon will be 48), buttons to randomize the competing teams, points to achieve for a win in starting groups, and so on.
Even "fixed" tournaments (not only DIY) have a format which sometimes changes during the decades of soccer story....

I know, I can already customize a totally new World Championship with DIY, but it would be nice to have a single button to automatically randomize the teams following certain rules without choosing them one at a time.. and even in DIY you cant set up a tournament with more than 24 teams.

6) I would like to add randomization even in DIY section: maybe - when you are creating a DIY competition - you should have in each section where you list single club/national teams, a button to "randomly choose X elements", where X is editable. So you can create a tournament where you randomly select 3 national teams of Europe, 4 national Teams of Asia, and 6 club teams of Spain (the example is totally crazy, just to explain my idea).

(Point 5 and 6 are similar to what you can do with DIY tournament, but you now dont have any "randomizer" button, and there is a maximum of 24 teams in tournament, while for instance the world cup takes currently 32 teams, and soon will take 48).

7) I remember the 1st version of SS had all players lining in fancy ways when they entered the field ad the beginning of a match, before taking their place in the field. I really liked that thing and would love to have an option to enable it again.

8 I remember the 1st version of SS had the panel with the result printing the "team name" in the color of the team itself. They removed this thing in SWOS (currently everything is written in white), but I really liked it, I would love to have an option to enable it again.

Thank you, and go on with your awesome work!

Hello, i would add to the list of ideas for tuture new features...

1) first is about the pitches: why do not create specific pitches for the different level of leagues? And in particular for the minor leagues, we could created small pitches with small stadiums, intimate scenarios (like for example with forests all around and small stands, maybe with fences on the borders and the crowd immediately behind, like is possible to see in the British minor leagues (like league two or in the non-league);

2) second idea is a bit more wide and its about a specific kind of pitch and specific kind of teams: the Victorian Pioneers football.
Recently i have seen the Netflix series "The English Game" and i remained fascinated by that early time of football. So, why to not create a specific pitch that follows the style of the Victorian football times? So, fences on the borders, the crowd all immediately behind, maybe just a little stand along one of the sides as it was in that early times, and on the green grass play-ground no lines, the ground delimited just by the fences. The doors as it was at those times, without nets. Again, all around we could put trees, forests, like it was at the legendary The Oval in London Town, where the early FA CUP finals were regularly played :-) Then, the teams to complete this idea: we could create a selection of those pioneers teams, like the Old Etonians, or the Royal Engineers, or the Darwen FC where the first professional player played (Fergus Suter), the Wanderers, etc.. etc.. etc.. These teams could be inserted into the career mode into a minor league (i don't know which, but maybe in one of the less relevant) or, and it could be probably the more respectful solution, into the roster of the custom teams, so that everyone can create their own competition (league, cup, tournament) selection from the roster these pioneers victorian age football teams.

If a graphic help is needed, i can put at disposal my graphic competences (i work as graphic designer, mainly with Photoshop) and of course not only for these ideas but for all the future graphic things that will be decided to be done :-)

In the meantime, a big hug to everyone outside there!

Hiya, first of all great job on this conversion and a big thanks.

As someone who keeps playing SWOS since it first came out i must say this makes playing (Amiga) SWOS much more convenient and adds a lot of stuff.

A lot of good suggestions floating around here too, but i have one that might go a step further;

With how you guys did the port, shouldn't it be possible to create a "basic" Footie manager with the SWOS engine being used for the actual matches?

Because that would be my dream-game, something like the old "Football Manager" / "Bundesliga Manager Pro" just with the SWOS engine to play (Or spectate) the actual matches. Maybe ontop of that some of the crazy stuff from Croteams "Football Glory" (Streaker running on the pitch, fireworks, that stuff).

Being a game dev myself (Sadly only in gamemaker these days) i know what an insane amount of work that would be, but it would be the 2D footie game to end all 2D footie games - And over 20 Years of waiting on the Sensie crew to get off their arses hasn't yielded any results (Aside from a mediocre 3D sensie and that sociable soccer thing that nobody, including myself, gives a damn about - No hard feelings Jon ;) ).

Some improvement ideas from me.
Ps. Keep up the good work. It’s amazing !

1. Not to lose money so quickly in career mode . Can this be patched so we don’t lose money so quickly?

2. Any chance of a slightly easier setting for beginners? (Just tweak the AI to a slightly easier setting ) so we have easy , normal and expert

3 Introduce an option to start with lots of money . I know this takes the challenge out of career mode but it would be a fun feature . After all , this is about having fun.

Thanks for listening

A couple of ideas for career mode, some of them already been said

1) I'd like to receive job offers even after becoming national coach, from clubs and other national teams. After winning European and World Championship the game becomes boring soon.

2) Yes I also dream of Libertadores

3) More secondary leagues for each country

4) Red cards and injuries for opponents

5) A lot more players for each team

6) Neymar has dark skin and blond hair: I'd like it

to be continued

Hello:

As some new ideas (I think they are new, don't know If there have been suggested already):

- Videoconsole gameplay. Now, PC, Amiga and Moon can be selected, maybe the videoconsole mode could be a good idea to be implemented also. (Maybe with the three buttons system?).

- Magnet gameplay. Players keeps the ball in the foot always.
