how? by using joytokey and remapping the controls as keyboard. . . then choosing keyboard in swos...the issue will not happen anymore
you are obviously still selecting xbox 360 contropller or your controller in SWOS option menu. . .CH0OSE KEYBOARD

Again!
Do NOT assign any shoulder buttons in Joy2Key software. Leave them disabled/unassigned.
Only assign the d-pad and the analogue stick to left, right, up, down arrow and your desired fire button as CTRL.
Then leave joy2key program open, start SWOS 2020, go to OPTION/CONTROL and choose KEYBOARD!
That's it.

It works thanks, apart from the fact I have no button control on my joypad, which for me defeats the object, thanks for all your help, such a shame, a great game which I can no longer enjoy.

I'm guessing you didnt assign a shoot button then (right control)?
