Sensible Soccer Original 95/96 - Wont Pass diagonally!?

Hello.

Recently bought SWOS 95/96 for my PC, running it through Dos-Box.

Everything works fine but when i am playing the game, it wont allow me to pass the ball diagonally ever!! I can pass the ball up, down, left or right though.

Looking on YouTube Vids at in game play, they seem to be passing the ball diagonally no problem.

Has anyone else come across this, or has a fix at all please?

PS..

If shooting up towards the goal, it will allow me to pass diagonally left but not right....if shooting down the pitch towards the goal
it will allow me to pass diagonally left but not right again!

Any ideas.......

I am using my arrow keys and a letter for shoot. I have tried changing the keys but nothing changed.

I dont really want to re-map my laptop keyboard. Would buying a USB joy-pad solve this?

i had this problem before on my laptop, using keys XZ FCG
i then changed my keys to ZX KML and it worked fine
it might be to do with the fact my old keys were all close together, or only on one side of the keyboard,
but regardless, i d try other combinations first
ps. and yes using a usb keyboard did work with my old keys
