Three easy questions! was created by one_billion_daleks
Hello there,
It has taken me two days to install SWOS-97 so far ... it s a real challenge I must say!
Anyway, three questions ...
(1) Every time I start SWOS I have to sit through a three minute music video called Superstar Hero (or something like that).
There doesn t seem to be a way to esc out of this and go straight to the game menu.
Is there any way to disable this rather long introductory video as it gets a bit tiresome after the umpteenth time!
(2) I can t define SPACE as my shoot key ... each time I try it just flashes INVALID KEY. I used to be able to define SPACE on my old version of SWOS, but not on SWOS-97.
(3) Something I ve always wondered ... is there a way to exit back to Windows rather than just crashing out ...? I ve never found an EXIT GAME option on any of the menus, so is there a secret trick to exiting the game cleanly ...?
Thank Q!

1) You will pass this video press to shoot button

Thanks Kyon.
Yes, I didn t have a shoot button as I was trying to use SPACE , but I ve now changed it to Z so yes, that stops the video OK - hooray!
Now I just have to figure out why it won t accept SPACE as shoot ... though Z is alright anyway.
Thanks for your help!

You can also try the SWOS total pack, makes running SWOS very easy in XP:

...just out of curiosity, why are you using the Z key for shoot? Most people seem happy with the cursor keys for movement and either left or right Control for shoot...

Hi EreWeGo (I like the footy-styled name there!)
Yes, good idea - though I downloaded SWOS-97 and as that was a 100Mb or so I guess I ll stick with that now!
But it was a real battle to install on XP - took me two days - but I got there in the end, though I still haven t got menu music even with VDMSound. But I m not worried about that really.
I noticed with DOSBox that even though the menus are all fullscreen, the screen-area for the pitch is reduced at the top and bottom by about one inch .. rather odd! Whereas via the XP command line I get a fullscreen game - so I m using that instead, which is maybe why the menu music isn t working. But at least I ve got all the ingame crowd noises and stuff, so that s the main thing!
As for the Z key ... well, that was the first one I tried when SPACE wouldn t work! But I might switch to the left SHIFT key if I get up the nerve to try and reconfigure at the risk of breaking everything all over again!
Anyway, thanks for your reply!

You cannot use SPACE because it s a reserved key to save highlight sequences during a match.

A-ha! Thanks Playaveli - didn t know that!
I thought the CD-image included the manual but I can t see it anywhere ...
Oh well, in that case I will stick with the Z key (Kyon) ... cos it doesn t get used much for anything else!
