Oli O. is right. And I think the player that volleys needs to have high skills of control. So the ball glues high at him and he can immediately kick it while stil in the air. It s like doing a tackle when the ball just bounced, it goes further (and higher, of course) than normal.
Don t forget the timing is tight. 10th of second kinda timing... so it won t work everytime.

Yeah, volley-shots are possible. I really like scoring that way!

You can also fasten short throw-ins by pulling your controller in the opposite direction (just like with fast curled passes).
The throw-in skill seems to be connected to the passing skill of a player, logical.
